Happy Birthday, Sammy!

Today was Sammy's first birthday!Sammy spend his special day enjoying all of the one on one attention from Mom and Dad, a rarity for a third born. Charlotte and Lily are out visiting with Nana, so it was a win- win for everyone!

Sammy's first birthday "cupcake."

(Don't worry, the candle isn't lit!!!)

Sammy gave it his best shot to fit the whole cupcake into his mouth!

He seemed pretty pleased with the frosting made out of cream cheese on top of a zucchini muffin.

Who doesn't love to see a baby smear cake all over himself? Too cute!

Yum!
Happy 1st Birthday!

One year ago today...

our wonderful baby Samuel came into this world. It is hard to believe that an entire year has gone by. We are so blessed to have such a happy, sweet boy to complete our family.

Sundae School

A trip to the Cape would not be complete without a visit to the Sundae School.
The girls love the chocolate dipped cones. I can't resist the hot fudge sundaes. They are the very best sundaes that I have had in my entire life... and I have alot of experience in this area.

Vacation visit

While we were down on the Cape, Uncle Doug and his family was vacationing at Bay Berry. We spent a couple of days visiting them. The kids loved all of the extra attention. And we enjoyed spending time with such a happy and loving family.
Aunt Renee taught Lily to play scrabble.

Uncle Doug loves babies. Sammy practically fell asleep right on Doug's lap.

We spent most of our vacation at the beach. It was the first string of sunny days in weeks. We felt so lucky to have nice weather.

It turns out that Sammy is pretty fearless in the water. He crawls straight for the wave, and laughs as the water splashes into his face.

Lily likes to chase the waves

Charlotte has been swimming in much deeper water, and lifting her feet off of the ground to swim. Sometimes she gets a mouth full of water.

Dougie and Jaqui dug a big hole in the sand for the girls to play in. They had fun jump and sliding in. This entertained them for a long time.

Dougie and Jaqui flying a kite with Charlotte. Who knew you could fly a kite using a fishing rod?

Before we came to visit, Dougie and Jaqui wrote and composed a song especially for the girls. They loved hearing it and were singing it for days after.

They also let the girls try strumming the guitar.

Here is the sweet song:
Lily and Charlotte by Dougie and Jaqui
Lily and Charlotte playing on the beach
Lily and Charlotte with a pail and shovel each
Lily and Charlotte
Lily and Charlotte climbing on the rocks
Lily and Charlotte hear a seagull squawk

Yo ho, yo ho, it's a pirate's life for me...

Last week, we took a vacation down the Cape at Nana and Rene's new beach house. We were prepared for a vacation filled with wet, gray, rainy weather. But it turned out to be an absolutely gorgeous week. During the weekends Nana and Rene came down, which is always fun for everyone. One of the days, during Sammy's nap, we took the girls to Pirate's Cove mini golf. They loved it, and were surprisingly good at golfing for their first trip out.

Lily takes a shot at hitting the ball. Her favorite part of the course was the holes that lead the ball to different parts of the golf course.

For the most part, Lily would hit the ball with her club, and then "lead" it into the hole- by dropping it in with her hand.

Dad, Charlotte and Lily watching the cannons "shoot" out of the pirate ship. Put Put has come a long way since Sam and I were kids.

It was pretty crowded, so we had to wait for our turn at some of the holes. Sam challenged the girls to a silly face contest. They came up with some pretty good ones. Unfortunately, I was not speedy enough with the camera to catch them all.

Charlotte took mini golfing pretty serious, and tried really hard. She had quite a few good shots with many ending up in the hole. Dad helped Charlotte hold the club correctly, and learn how to aim for the ball. It was so funny to watch as she walked around still holding on to the club, so as not to loose the proper grip.

Playground Fun!

A few days before we went on vacation, we spent the day at an awesome park in the town next to us. There is so much to do there, you can spend all day and still have more to do. The playground is situated on top of a hill, with a variety of activities positioned on each of the slopes.

The playground area was fun for everyone. Sammy was so happy to participate in some of the fun. Look at what a pro Lily is wrapping her arms around Sammy while she rocked the T-Rex.

The climbing area has plenty of challenging equipment for the girls. They slept well after this visit!

Charlotte and Sammy had a blast together at the swings. As Sammy would swing towards her, Charlotte would make silly faces or do a little dance, and Sammy laughed a big belly laugh while kicking his legs like crazy.

This kid loves a good thrill!
On the way down the hill, there is a long tube slide that the girls loved! I was surprised that they were so daring to try it. It is really tall. Here is Lily at the platform where the slide begins.

Here she is at the end. It is so long and fast, it gives a decent sized weggie at the end. We got a good laugh over that one!

A little further on, there is a beautiful butterfly garden filled with all sorts of fragrant flowers. I thought that this pretty butterfly bench would be the perfect spot for a picture of the kids all together. As you can see, Lily just wasn't into it. And when Lily doesn't want to do something, no amount of coaxing will get her to change her mind.

Charlotte and Lily are getting ready to make a wish in a wishing well. Wonder what they wished? Lily- her birthday. (We have been to alot of birthday parties lately, and it has been hard for the girls to wait for theirs). Charlotte- pet turtle.

There is a small petting zoo at the park, as well. For the most part, this area is the bleak part of the trip. Generally, I think that looking at and feeding animals through chain link fences is a pretty sad state of affairs.
But the kids can't resist those fuzzy horse noses and giant tongues.

While we were walking back up to the car, we ran into a little brook with this unicorn statue next to it. The girls love unicorns, so they were thrilled!

Charlotte found a butterfly bush in bloom and couldn't resist its' sweet smell. We have been enjoying all of the fun of summer vacation.
